- Thanks to all who replied to my recent post about my A3640 scsi
- problems. Despite all the suggestions I seem no closer to a solution
- than when I started. I apologize for the length of this post but I
- wanted to be thorough.
-
- The problem I am experiencing is that when I install the A3640 in my
- A3000 (desktop), my hard drive disappears. When I remove the 3640 it
- reappears. My current setup is as follows:
-
- A3000 16M/2M
- Kickstart 3.1 ROMs
- Rev. -08 WD SCSI
- Rev. -11 Buster
- Rev. -04 DMAC
- Rev. -07 Ramsey
-
- With the board installed, the hard drive doesn't even show up on the
- boot menu. I have checked everything that was suggested by those who
- responded to my previous post including SCSI termination (most often
- cited as a possible cause for this).
-
-
- From "Using the A3640 in an A3000" by Oliver Knorr:
-
- >[A3640 board rev.]
- >3.0
- > This one will not work at all in the A3000 (though it might
- > work in the A4000!). You need to give such a board to a repair
- > center for an upgrade to 3.1 or 3.2.
-
- What exactly does "will not work" mean? Is this saying that if my
- board was a rev. 3.0 it would not even boot? My system seems to work
- fine with the board installed save the fact that it doesn't see the HD.
-
- The label showing the chip revision was removed from the U209 before
- I purchased the board. The silkscreen says Rev. 3.1 but another
- poster to this group indicated that this is not necessarily true.

- I purchased my board used. I have no way of knowing whether or not
- the jumpers were correct when I bought the board. Anyone?

- Again, what exactly does "Will not work correctly" mean?
- Does it mean that SCSI will not work at all or "your hard drive will
- disappear"? :-)
-
- I can see the drive with HDToolBox and even partition it but as soon
- as I reboot all is as if I had done nothing to the drive. All changes
- seem to be ignored (or they were never committed).

- As stated above, I have new revisions of both of these chips as well
- as the WD SCSI and Super Buster.
-
-
-
- Once again, any and all help is greatly appreciated
